Major achievement!!!
Yes, it has been some time since an update. However, let's look at this as a good thing. 😊
Jordan is still on the same supplements. He took the HistminX during the heavy pollen season, but it has since been removed. Since the pollen has decreased, he hasn't had any stimming, physical or verbal.
At his last virtual appointment, we decided that we needed to get the GI-Map done for him. It assesses bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites in the gut. I just collected the sample and sent it off on Thursday. This will be a vital next step in changing his diet.I have been desperately wanting to increase what he eats, but I'm scared it will disrupt his gut. With this test, I might find the issue. Then we can give a supplement or even a medication that will allow other foods to be given that won't affect him negatively. I should have the results in a couple of weeks and follow up with his doctor on August 4th.
On Friday, I took him to get his glasses. When we went a little over a year ago, the doctor didn't think it was going to add to the quality of his life. However, the last time we went to the movies, I thought differently. While he is not squinting to watch the movie, I don't know how well he can actually see it, or anything he looks at for that matter. It could not be as bad as I think, or he could not know that squinting could help him see better. I just want him to have the option available to him if he needs it.So all in all, everything is good. I don't have any life lessons to share with you today. But I can tell you God has blessed me with something I have been looking for since my son was diagnosed with autism: regulation.
Shortly after Jordan started taking the Magmind, he would avoid his oldest and youngest sisters. When he needed to be in the kitchen, and they came in, he would go in the bathroom or his room until they left. He began to understand that they caused sensory overload and removed himself from that environment. Even when things went differently than planned, he still wouldn't stim in his room to regulate. Now he is regulated no matter who is around. He doesn't avoid his sisters anymore, and when I randomly ask for a hug, he doesn't go into his room and stim. He just is. This is something that I have worked hard for a long time to gain. It's not that I don't want him to regulate the way he knows how, but it's such a major achievement to see that he no longer has sensory overload.
I'll be back in a couple of weeks to share the results of his GI Map.
