A brief but powerful testimony
Sunday morning, I had an amazing God experience.
My Sunday started like any other Sunday. The night before, I wanted to go to bed at my normal bedtime, but after talking to my brother, I decided to watch the fight that the whole world was talking about. (Well, my eyelids watched it because I fell asleep as soon as the main event started.) As a result, on Sunday morning, I ended up waking up a half hour later than I had planned, which meant I wouldn't be able to arrive at church by 7:30 to park in one of my go-to parking spots. Just because of that, I almost opted not to attend and watch the service online, and arrive at church for the 10 o'clock service, but the Holy Spirit said to me, 'Is it really that bad?' It wasn't, so I kept getting ready. I still ended up with one of my spots. Look at God.
When we get in the sanctuary and sit, I notice Jordan is stimming excessively. Several days ago, I gave him one of the supplements suggested to be administered in small increments to build up tolerance. However, it appears he reacts the same to any dose I give him. I don't plan on returning that supplement to his schedule. Because he was rocking harder than normal, I decided to take him into his classroom, thinking it would be a little less distracting for me and others. But when he entered the room and sat in his normal seat, he said he wanted to go. I thought he meant the other room he goes into when his class is over. But he walked past that room and wanted to return to the sanctuary. So into the sanctuary we went.
We had a guest psalmist who shared a testimony about a young man who was diagnosed with a form of leukemia and had a 10% chance of living, and due to a complication in a procedure, his parents were told he wouldn't speak. He is now 23 and came on stage to help sing the song he inspired Anthony Evans to make, named "You're Not Finished". The song was perfect.
My pastor said he believed the message in that song was for many and called people down to the stage to be prayed over. I took Jordan with me because God was telling me, 'He's not finished with him.' That was the moment I felt the move of God. From waking up late and pushing through to attend the 8 a.m. service when my pattern would be to watch online, to Jordan's stimming and taking him to his classroom, but him wanting to stay in the sanctuary, all was God speaking to me. He organized everything the way He did, so I could see His hand in everything. He was confirming, I'm not finished.
Oftentimes, we have our own agendas. And when things don't go as planned, we try to remedy it our way. However, we must be able to recognize when our routine is being interrupted due to the Holy Spirit. When He is changing your plans, it allows you to see just how He moves on your behalf, if you are paying attention. If I had watched this service online, I would have been frustrated that I wasn't in person to get that experience. If I had made Jordan stay in the room to suit my needs, I would have been bothered that he wasn't in the sanctuary to walk down with me and receive the prayer by my pastor and first lady. God moved in multiple ways that morning. I couldn't move after the service was over because the presence I felt was one I had never felt before. We must be observant and obedient to the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, we miss out on opportunities we may never have again. I know that I would never have another experience like that. I'm so thankful that day, I chose to be obedient.
1 Samuel 15:22 (NASB)
Samuel said,
“Does the Lord have as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
As in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than a sacrifice,
And to pay attention is better than the fat of rams.
